Good evening Brother Knights,
Our September meeting was held on Monday, Sept 13 with 15 members present. Here are the highlights of the meeting.
Shelly from Life Skills came and spoke of the importance of our Phonathon. In the previous 41 years, the Knights have raised $1,661,000 in pledges for Life Skills & the Special Olympics. This is the 50th year of Life Skills here in LeMars and they could not do all the good work that they do without us. Money raised is used for capital expenditures for the most part. Even if you are not on the call list and you want to come call, stop at the hall tomorrow October 14 and make some calls.
Baptism gift for all baptized at All Saints parish. Cost for a KC bear, rosery & Rose will be approximately $26.00. Motion was made & 2nd to start this project. Motion passed. GK will order supplies for this and get it started by months end.
Flag Pole has arrived, GK & Eric Mitchell will organize the next steps.
Heart of the School pork chop feed will be Sept 25, serving from 4-7 pm. Drive through only.
New T-Shirts have arrived, many sizes to choose from, contact GK to reserve one and pay for it. Cost is $11.50 to $13.50.
Olsen center Bash is Saturday Sept 17. Need more volunteers, contact Justin Freking or John Peters.
75 members do not have an email address on file with us so they are not receiving any communication. GK will be trying to get these address’s and enter them in. If members do not have email, we will start sending out hard copy newsletters. If you got this email for the first time, I received your email address from someone.
Both $500 donations that were made to Her Health in LeMars & Mary’s Choice in Sioux City were granted the matching $500 donation from the Iowa K of C Charitable Foundation. With the $100 each coming from Supreme we will have donated $1100 to each pregnancy center to help their efforts.
Gehlen Business drive, Motion was made and 2nd to donate a total of $4353 to Gehlen for the current school year for the Ball, J Club, Fine Arts & after Prom.
Joan Driscoll wanted us to know of the National Life Chain happening Sunday October 2 from 1 – 2:30 pm. Meet at Meylor Chiropractic and spread along Plymouth street.
KC Insurance agent requested we consider helping pay all or a portion of a life insurance policy for our pastor. After a lengthy discussion, it was voted on that we do not proceed with this.
LCHS & Gehlen homecoming parades, Sept 30 & Oct 7. Andy Ruden volunteered to pull the float. Will look into finding a couple volunteers to walk and toss out candy.
Terry Sohm our Financial Secretary asked if the council could provide a laptop computer for him to continue his duties on since he can not get to his basement where his computer is. A few members are looking into finding a laptop for him to use for a few months until his knees are replaced, and he can do steps again.
Columbus Club report.
New floor is in and looks great, came in under budget at $16,483. Columbus club will continue to look at minor renovations to keep the hall looking good.
DID YOU KNOW!
There are only 10 councils in the state of Iowa that have a hall like ours to conduct their business in. We are very fortunate that we can make the upgrades we need and keep our hall in the great condition that it is. Thanks to all who have contributed to the upgrades by donating their time, talent, or treasures.
Next meeting, October 3. Come let your voice be heard!
John Peters, Grand Knight
